Chalet Le F’Net – Mont Blanc

Chalet F’Net above Saint Gervais Mont Blanc, is one of the most romantic small chalets in the Alps; an evocation of the elegance and romance of the bygone era of Hepburn, Grant, Niven and Aran Sweaters and a great location whatever the season; not least in the winter with on one side Prarion and Les Houches and on the other St Gervais, Bettex, St Nicolas, Combloux and Megeve. Some of the most extensive and varied skiing in the Alps. And F’Net is the ideal romantic base to ski the region.

Using the buttons above explore the location in glorious 360 in both winter and summer,  checkout both the winter piste maps and summer trails and watch what you can pack into just a couple of days skiing.

An 19th century Chalet d’Alpage (shepherd’s refuge) and Mazot, a mini-chalet, Le F’Net is less than an hour’s drive from Geneva perched on the trail up to the Prarion Mountain; with superb views across St Gervais and towards the glorious Chaine D’Aravis mountain range. Surrounded by its own private woodland and a slice of now defunct piste it is a short walk from parking or directly accessible by 4×4, and even in full snow it is only a ten minute walk or an even shorter skidoo ride or ski Joring (towed by horse on skis); yet feels like a world away.

Jamie – our own Alpine Gillie – is on hand to bring your luggage, and sometimes you, up to Le F’Net and bring you fresh bread daily and sometimes Alpine Smokies, his take on the famous Arbroath Smokie.

St Gervais has been popular in the summer for well over a 100 years with fabulous mountain walks, mountain biking trails, glistening lakes and of course the famous St. Gervais thermal baths, so use this link to see a preview of Summer in St. Gervais.

David and Anjana Devoy – the couple behind Grand Designs’ Curved House, Clapham (C4, 2003 & 2004) – have re-create Le F’Net as an authentic mountain retreat with as much passion and style as they brought to their previous projects which include Red Kite Barn (Wales), their Red Kite Tree Tent (Britain’s first tree tent hotel) that featured on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces (C4, November 2012) and the totally unique Ladderstile House on Richmond Park. You can view their architectural retrospective here.

David and Anjana have created a stylish ‘refuge-de-luxe’ an elegant and romantic mountain side retreat reflecting the move away from ski-in ski-out ‘bling’ towards escaping into nature in style and comfort with some pain-for-gain solitude. But David and Anjana’s off-beat eye is more than skin deep as they have ensured their renovation has created a more sustainable and breathable building.

Chalet F’Net has two double bedrooms, one en-suite with a double sided open fire and an open plan living / dining / kitchen that opens out onto a traditional wrap-around first floor balcony. Outside there is an oak-decked terrace, mountain grill and romantic hot tub. There is also a separate two storey self-contained traditional reclaimed ancient Mazot (micro chalet) next door with resident Guardian (who can also skidoo guests up or down the mountain and will bring you fresh bread in the morning) and although David and Anjana’s vision was to create the ultimate intimate and romantic mountainside retreat, F’Net can sleep two to four adults in comfort and style in the chalet.

And Le F’Net will be as practical as it is romantic, equipped not as a ‘holiday’ home but a home away from home that is a world away. For those who like a bit of apres ski, a quick toboggan ride/walk to the Les Toailles car park and then a five minute drive into the historic and charming alpine town of St Gervais Les Bains for an evening in the Thermal Spas followed by a meat feast at Le Galeta. A short walk up the mountain in the other direction is the Trip Advisor praised mountainside La Taniere Restaurant that can also deliver prepared meals to the door of L’Fnet

"As close as possible to the top of the Mountain and to perfection. This very very comfortable and cosy chalet was simply a gem that sits well above the charming town of St Gervais les bains and is ideal for either a ROMANTIC or family escape. The richness of details and the heart that is put into the house by it’s owners is remarkable. Bravo!"

Merci!"
